Bunpian, Prayoon's Obituary
Dr. Prayoon Bunpian
Prayoon Bunpian, MD, of Plano, TX passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024 after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on April 1, 1939 and grew up on a farm outside of Lopburi, Thailand. He was the oldest of seven children. After completing his medical degree at Siriraj Medical School in Bangkok, he moved to the United States to continue his medical training. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the former Lutheran Hospital in Baltimore, MD, which is where he met and married his wife Sylvia. Work eventually led Prayoon to the small East Texas town of Palestine, where he practiced OB-GYN for approximately 25 years. Upon retirement, he moved to Plano, TX where he lived many happy years until his passing.
Prayoon is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and one sister in Thailand. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sylvia Bunpian; his daughter Darlene and son-in-law Stephen Allman; daughter Ginger Bunpian; and grandchildren Audrey Allman, Elizabeth Allman, Jack Garvey, and Bridgette Garvey.
Known affectionately as “Dr. Prayoon” by close friends, his favorite hobbies included fishing and boating. He loved spending time in the outdoors and being close to nature, planting trees, and doing yardwork. He also loved traveling and exploring the world. He enjoyed watching historical documentaries and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys.
Above all, Prayoon was a devoted family man. He appreciated the simple joys in life, like watching his daughters’ dance recitals as they were growing up. Nothing made his eyes light up more than the sight of his grandchildren and hearing them call him “Grandpa.” Even as his health started to decline, he would spend as much time with his family as possible.
A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held at Restland Funeral Home on September 27, 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
