Ralph L. Horak's Obituary
Ralph L. Horak, a resident of Presbyterian Village North in Dallas, Texas, died on September 3, 2019 at the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Ralph was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 17, 1927. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.Ralph attended public schools in Shaker Heights in Cleveland. Following his service in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1946-1947, he attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. While at Miami, he was a member of the Campus Owls, the university’s Big Band, and graduated with a M.S. in Geology in 1952. He married Fran Fitzgerald of Springfield, Ohio on June 14, 1952 and moved to Midland, Texas where their married life began. He was employed by Mobil Oil Corporation as a geologist for 34 years with assignments in Production, Exploration, and Research.He is survived by his daughter Karen Fine, son-in-law David, great grandson Preston Walker – son of Jerasen White; daughter Susan Hasek, son-in-law Chris, granddaughter Erin; son Allen Horak, daughter-in-law, Tracy, grandsons, Foster, Milam, Caeden, and Luke; and sister-in-law Alice Horak of Maple Heights, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran, his father, Charles L. Horak, his mother, Mildred Horak, his brother, Charles R. Horak, niece, Charlene Horak, nephew, Gregory Horak, and grandson Jerasen White. Ralph was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at the Network in Richardson, Texas for over 20 years, and a musician in several local musical organizations. He liked traveling, reading, and associating with his friends. After his family and friends, his greatest love was playing, composing, and arranging Big Band music.A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Dr., Dallas on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation and burial at Restland Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (“PCHAS”) 5920 W. William Cannon Drive, Bldg. 3 – Suite 100, Austin, TX 78749Funeral arrangements for Mr. Ralph L.
