Ray D. Jones Sr.'s Obituary
Jones, Sr., Ray D. was born on May 19, 1927 in Trenton, Texas and passed away on March 11, 2014 in Mesquite, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Pearl Jones; mother, Josie Lee Jones; father, William Ward Jones; brothers, William Jones and Benny Jones, Sr.; and sister, Dorothy Nell Jones. Ray was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather to his 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of military service from January, 1947 to December 1949 and received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Air Force. After working a few odd jobs he was hired by Central Freight Lines in Dallas, Texas performing local deliveries all over the city. He was especially proud of his numerous safe driving awards throughout his 35 years of service. Ray met and married his wife, Virgie in 1950 and remained married for more than 59 years until her death in 2010. Following his retirement from Central Freight lines he worked another 15 years for Gulf States Auto Auctions as a city wide driver. He studied hard and became a Mason in 1994 with the Mesquite Texas Mason Lodge where he remained a member until his death. Ray is survived by his children, Janice Dunn and husband, Bruce, Donna Kennedy and husband, Robert, Clarlotte McLain and husband, John, Dedra Johnson and husband, Randy, and Ray D. Jones Jr.; grandchildren, Jennifer Dunn, Jason Kennedy, Dustin Kennedy, J.D. McLain, Bobby Langley, Breanna Duke, Kalyn Duke, Ray D. Jones III, and Jeremy Jones; great grandchildren, Dylan Langley, Sadie Langley, Scarlette McKinney, Tristan Kennedy, Kash Ray Kennedy, and Jayde River Dunn. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
