Obituary of Ray W. Presley
Ray Whitman Presley was born July 16, 1944 in Commerce, TX to Mert and Ruby Presley. He was raised on a cotton farm with his siblings Merlene Tidwell, Faye Gage, Roy Presley, and Milton Hathaway. He was always proud of his country roots, which instilled in him a strong work ethic, as well as the ability to have fun no matter the circumstances.
He graduated from Commerce High School in 1962. He then attended East Texas State University, where he met his wife, Beverly Sharyer Presley. He graduated in 1966, and earned a Master’s degree in 1968. He spent 30 years teaching in the Dallas Independent School District, serving the longest at Skyline High School.
He and Beverly were married on August 17, 1968. They had two children, Angela Presley Melendez and Ryan Presley. Additionally, they had two granddaughters, Isabela Alyse Melendez and Analyse Melendez. He was a very proud parent and adoring “Poppy”.
He passed away on December 11, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mert and Ruby Presley, his brothers Milton Hathaway and Roy, his wife Beverly, his granddaughter Isabela, and sister Faye. Service and burial will be held at Restland Memorial Park on Monday, December 23, 2024 at noon.
