Raye Fenter's Obituary
Fenter, Raye Moore “Nana” Raye Moore Fenter passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 22, 2012. She was 81 years old. Born June 2, 1931 on a farm near Mabank in East Texas, Raye was the youngest of six children. After finishing high school she moved to Dallas with her sister, Freda. There she met Felix Fenter on a blind date, which led to a long, wonderful marriage of 62 years. After the wedding they moved to Austin where Raye attended the University of Texas while Felix worked on his Aerospace doctorate. During this time their daughter Susan was born. The family soon moved to Irving where Felix began a long career with Chance Vought Aircraft and the successor companies. During those early years, Raye was active in the PTA, led Susan’s Girl Scout troop, carpooled to ballet and swimming lessons, and ran the household. This was an exciting time for the family as Felix’s career soared and began to involve extensive travel. Raye thoroughly enjoyed those occasions when she could travel with him and proved to be a great asset at social functions. Consequently she made friends around the world. She especially loved Paris, the Loire Valley, Giverny, Prague and Kenya. Over the years, Raye also enjoyed playing tennis, watching football, and participating in her neighborhood book club. Probably her greatest joy was her role as “Nana” to her beloved granddaughters, Andrea and Evi. She faithfully attended their ballet, piano and choir recitals as well as soccer and field hockey games. Nana also loved attending the girls’ Hockaday events such as grandparent’s day and the various musicals. She loved having “her girls” nearby and felt very blessed to watch them grow up. Raye was dearly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. She will always be remembered. May she rest in peace. She is survived by husband Felix, daughter Susan Shiakolas, son-in-law Panos Shiakolas, granddaughters Andrea and Evi Shiakolas, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2:15 to 3:00 pm, Friday, December 28 followed by a Memorial Service from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. Both services will be held at Restland Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75218. 972-238-7111
