Raymond Lee Austin's Obituary
AUSTIN, RAYMOND LEE, age 72, passed away on October 23, 2012 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Raymond was born to Leonard and Inez Austin on September 8, 1940 and grew up with his three siblings, David, Marian and Paul. Raymond’s intellect and natural aptitude for mathematics were always notable. He pursued his love of arithmetic, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of North Texas and a master’s degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas. He had a passion for teaching, and he touched the lives of thousands of students. He spent many years as a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Devry University. Raymond enjoyed literature and philosophy, particularly the works of Thoreau and Durant, and had a strong respect for nature; these values he shared with his friends and family. He was a dedicated family man, beloved by all, affectionately called “U.R.” by his nieces and nephews. His sharp wit was matched only by his love and compassion for others. He will be in our hearts always. Raymond is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Angie; daughter, Christina; son, John; four grandsons, Andrew, Dana, Benton and Thomas; granddaughter, Zoe; and two great- grandsons, Brock and Benton Jr. Visitation will be at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the church.
