Raymond Daniel Hawkins' Obituary
Raymond Daniel Hawkins, who was born August 12, 1920 in Purcell, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord and Savior February 2, 2017. Raymond was 96 years old and lived at the Waterford in Mesquite with his wife, Gwen. A more loving, caring, compassionate, honorable and kind man has never been found on this earth. He was preceeded in death by his first wife of 66 years Eileen, and second wife Janie, brother Herman of Pittsboro and brother Harold of Houston. Raymond is survived by his two sons and daughter and their spouses: Gary & Marcelle Hawkins of The Villages in central Florida, Kay & Edward Derrell Everitt of Garland and Ronald & Paula Hawkins of Rowlett. He had eleven grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Raymond served in the Army Air Force during World War II and returned to Oklahoma City to pursue a career in the printing field. He was a pressman at the Daily Oklahoman when the union went on strike in 1956. After three days of walking the picket line he decided to look for other opportunities in Ft. Worth where his brother Herman worked in a print shop. He worked at numerous print shops in the DFW area as a typesetter and first-class proof reader eventually landing at the commercial trade-typesetter, Jaggers Chiles Stovall. Joining the game in his late 20’s Raymond became an avid golfer and encouraged two of his children to follow his dreams on the links. He has now reached the 19th hole. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Restland Memorial Chapel with visitation 1 hour prior starting at 10:00 am in the chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
