Raymond Arnold "Sandy" Hitt's Obituary
Raymond Arnold "Sandy" Hitt, 102, a decorated World War II veteran, died Monday, February 1, 2021. Formally of Farmers Branch, Sandy passed peacefully at St. Adelaide Gospel of Life Dwelling, his home for the last 7 years.
Sandy was born in Hawkins, Texas on Dec. 3, 1918. At that time, America was in the midst of the influenza pandemic. He died in the midst of the current pandemic, and even though he did not have the virus, he had a deep compassion for the hospitalized and homebound.
While in the Army, Sandy served our country in the Central European Campaign. He was a teletype operator and received an honorable discharge in 1946 earning the EAME Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, an American Theater Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. In 2014 Sandy was proud to be on the DFW Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Sandy worked for many years at Texas Instruments. While working there he met his wife, Helen June. They were married 46 years before she passed in 2002. Together they enjoyed gardening and ceramics.
One of Sandy's great joys was to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. He also loved fishing.
