Rebecca Luz Rosado's Obituary
Rebecca Luz Rosado moved on from the earth Thursday, November 24, 2022. She was seventy-one years old. “Becky” was Pedro and Carmen Rosado’s second of seven children. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico August 23, 1951. As an “Army brat,” Rebecca lived in various areas in the United States and graduated from Lawton High School, Lawton, Oklahoma in 1969.
Becky was a beautiful woman with many talents. She was a contestant in the Miss Lawton Pageant, but more importantly her accolades included numerous science fair awards. First experimenting with fuel cells, she was an Oklahoma State Science Fair finalist for her Science Fair presentation “An Introduction to the Electrochemical Cell and the Effect of Temperature on its Output.” As a result of that project, she was invited to do more research on Fuel Cells at NASA in Houston. Rebecca was also awarded a national aeronautics award and she received chemistry awards from both the US Navy and US Army.
She attended Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas, Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and transferred to Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts (now called University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma) where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish in 1972 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. During her college years she studied French Civilization in Marseilles, France for a semester. That ignited her desire to travel abroad. She traveled throughout Europe, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, the Orient and various parts of the Middle East for work and pleasure and would return home with a desire to share the food and culture with her family and friends. An avid cook, art lover, and linguist, she taught herself several foreign languages.
After college graduation, she began a sales and marketing job with IBM and later with Bausch and Lomb, Soflens Division. Rebecca worked as a stockbroker for both Merrill Lynch and Oppenheimer. She especially enjoyed her job as a Field Sales Manager for Tampa, Florida’s Busch Gardens Theme Park. As a “woman in a man’s world,” she broke barriers and excelled at her work. She was recognized by the Spanish American Businessmen’s Association (Chicago), as “Pan American Man of the Year” in 1976. Rebecca was especially proud of being the first woman to be selected for that award.
During her later years she continued to use her talents in sales, cooked gourmet meals for her friends and family and shared her love of many cultures with her nieces and nephews. Rebecca owned and loved Chinese Shar Pei dogs and rescued mutts.
She is survived by her six siblings: Sonia Ivette Rosado Dale (Jim), Nelson Charles Rosado (Lynn), Sandra Martha Holzapfel (Matthew), Daniel Peter Rosado (Mary), Carleen Ileana Rosado, and George Jesus Rosado (Mary Beth). She will also be missed by her sixteen nieces and nephews, and her dog, Roca. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions in memory of Rebecca Rosado be made to the Brain Support Network, www.brainsupportnetwork.org, P. O. Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026.
