Rex Burt Walthers' Obituary
Rex Burt Walthers, 74, of Carrollton, Texas rose to Glory on September 27, 2019.Born in Dallas to Burt Elmer Walthers and Janie Waller Walthers, Rex was always proud of his Texas roots and southeast Dallas childhood. After graduating from W. W. Samuel high school, he joined the US Air Force and served in theater during the Vietnam War. His Air Force career took him across the United States and around the world, including a short stint in pre-revolutionary Iran.After retiring from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant he returned to Dallas and spent seventeen years as a technician for Dallas Area Rapid Transit. Rex was always in motion, whether providing community service as a Mason and Shriner, serving as a volunteer for Carrollton’s public safety agencies or traveling to “modern doll” conventions with Janice, his wife of more than 30 years.Rex is survived by his wife Janice and her sons Edward (Deanna) and Vernon (Joty); brother Robert (Sheryl); sons Kevin (Shannon Elliott), David (Tanya) and Thomas; granddaughters Bree Walthers and Erin Frazee and grandson Trey Elliott. He is also survived by two nieces, a nephew and their children.Rex never met a stranger. He loved people and was always willing to pitch in for a party, a cause or a parade! His combination of boundless enthusiasm and willingness to work made him a great volunteer and neighbor. Our family and our community will miss him.
