Richard Joel Akins' Obituary
Flying to his eternal rest, Richard Joel Akins of Garland, Texas.
Richard was born in Hope, Arkansas to John and Olive Akins.
He passed away on February 14th, 2026 at the age of 80, with his wife Peggy Joyce at his side. They married in the living room of the home they shared in their retirement.
Richard served with honor and distinction as a Master Sergeant of the United States Army Signal Corps, stationed variously in Southeast Asia, NORAD Command in Cheyenne Mountain, and LANDSOUTH NATO Command under Brigadier General Dozier. He loved to ride motorcycles, and upon retirement from the Armed Services, loved to mow lawns, being with family, & participating in city government - when not providing excellent professional security services.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; His children Mai, Lysa, Steven, and Matthew; and his grandchildren J & J, A & T, and S.
Richard is interred with military honors in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
