It's with great sorrow that I share the loss of Richard "Dick" Athey, my friend of over 56 years.
Our " Wonder Years" were growing up in Springdale Ohio in the 60's and 70's. As " Springdale Hoods, we weren't much of a threat, we had no money and had to walk everywhere because we were too young to drive. We home schooled ourselves on the ways of our world, enjoying cars, music and girl friends. Dick and I worked together at our first job, shuffling pizza at La Rose's He was the first person to ride with me in my first car. I managed to get pulled over in Green Hills for picking up my first hitch hikers. That afternoon ended when my back wheels started smoking.
I didn't remember to release the parking brake on the car. When I got Dick back home, I missed the turn and ran over Dick's neighbors bushes.
We had a lifetime of fun and adventure.
My life wouldn't have been the same without Dick.
Condolences to Dick's daughter, mother and brothers!
