Richard Ernest Barbour's Obituary
BARBOUR, RICHARD “DICK” ERNEST born March 13, 1930 in Columbus, Ohio. He passed from this life March 14, 2013 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Edward; and his sister, Patricia, as well as his wife, Lena. He is survived by his son, Richard Ernest Barbour, Jr.; daughter, Jonni Easley and her husband David, and his daughter, Linda Maples and her husband Craig. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends. Dick joined the United States Marine Corps at age sixteen and served his country from 1947 to 1950 at Camp Pendleton, California. He worked for the US Postal Service for twenty-five years until his retirement in 1985. He was a 33rd degree Free Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Shriners, as well as the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythius. He had a bountiful and generous spirit, and volunteered in charitable programs like Toys for Tots. In recent years he was a member of Casa View Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he sang with the chancel choir and with the men’s chorus called Faithful Men. His hobbies included fishing, as well as Dominoes, 42 and Canasta. He had many friends from all walks of life. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 22 at Restland Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Lesly F. Massey officiating.
