Richard Allen Cate's Obituary
Dallas businessman and longtime resident Richard Allen Cate was born on February 7, 1941 in Little Rock, AR, and died suddenly on May 19, 2016 while on vacation in Nassau, Bahamas. He was raised in Little Rock, and graduated from Malvern High School in 1959. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1964, and graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with an MBA in 1968. He was President and Founder of Cate & Company, established in 1980, a heating and air conditioning distributorship in Dallas. He was an avid golfer most of his life, and played cards almost every day in his later years. He was preceded in death by his parents Irene and Harold Cate of Little Rock. He is survived by wife Drenna, brother William Cate and his wife Alyson, daughter Courtney Henry and her husband Shawn of Denver, son Brooks and his wife Kecia of Dallas, stepson Steve Jones and his wife Brandy of Round Rock, and stepson Mike Jones and his wife Dawn of Dallas. He is also survived by six grandchildren: William and Caroline Henry, Brandon and Nicole Cate, and Brailey and Brooke Jones. He is also survived by his first wife Carolyn Cate. A memorial service will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel at 1pm on Saturday June 4, immediately followed by a celebration of his life the Dallas Athletic Club in the Royal Room. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richard Cate Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in his honor at the SMU Lyle School of Engineering.
