Richard Lawrence Congdon's Obituary
Congdon, Richard ~ Age 95, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in McKinney, TX. He went peacefully after a long and very rewarding life. Preceding him in death was his mother, Sarah E. Congdon, his father, James B. Congdon, and his wife of 46 years, Martha Ann Crane Congdon. He is survived by 3 children, Donald W. Congdon, Joy L. Starr, Laura C. Dial, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Lawrence or R.L. to his friends, was born in Irving, TX, and grew up with his mother and grandmother in Powderly and then Dallas, TX. After marrying Martha, they moved to a farm in Plano and later retired to a farm in Yantis, TX. Lawrence had a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University. He went to work even before he graduated from college, at Geophysical Services, Inc., later becoming Texas Instruments, Inc., where he worked for 42 1/2 years. Along the way, he made many close friends playing Bridge, was an avid Ham Radio Operator, loved gardening and raising and showing Smooth Fox Terriers. There will be a service held on Saturday, February 12th, at Restland, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, in the Wildwood Chapel at 10:00 AM, with a visitation period 1 hour before the service.
