Richard Lee "Dick" Cole's Obituary
In Loving memory of Dick Cole Richard Lee “Dick” Cole was carried home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 21, 2016. He is reunited with his most cherished earthly gift, his wife Dorothy who preceded him in death in November 2015. Dick was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 15, 1933 to Maude and Albert Henry Cole. He was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and continued his education at Drake University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After contracting polio in the early 1950’s, Dick made a decision to leave the harsh winters of the north and move to Dallas, Texas. It was in the summer of 1958, while attending the Career Class at Munger Place Methodist Church, he met Dorothy Marie McLure. Dick always insisted Dorothy was the Lord’s greatest earthly gift to him. They married in July of 1960. Dick and Dorothy raised three children in their 55 years of marriage, while Dick had 32 successful years in advertising with Sears Roebuck and Company as the Advertising Manager for Sears’ Southwest Territory. He leaves behind two daughters and their husbands, Karen and Van Dinger and Susan and Arren Conner; and a son and daughter-in-law, Kristy and Robert Cole. He has five grandchildren and two great-grandsons: Amber and Rob Dinger and sons Gavin and Cade; grandchildren Andrew Dinger, Alie Dinger, Taylor Cole, and Tori Cole. He also leaves behind in Iowa his brother and sister-in-law, Gloria and Al Cole and two nephews, Kathy and Skip Cole and Rick Cole. From the McLure family, he leaves behind nine nieces, all in Texas. Dick had a heart for serving others and is known for his devotion to his family and sharing his faith. Through the years, he had served in his church by teaching Sunday school classes, singing in choir, leading in Men’s Ministry, Summer of Choice West Dallas Ministry, Stephen’s Ministry and as a deacon at Northwest Bible Church. Sports were a key part of his life. He enjoyed watching sports and was an accomplished athlete in high school which taught him the importance of discipline in life. He also enjoyed wood working, creating cards and drawings for family members, swimming, playing the harmonica, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. Although not a veteran himself, Dick loved his country and highly respected all those who serve in the military. He was a student of World War II and was passionate about airplanes. He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends. The memorial service, followed by a reception, will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27th at Northwest Bible Church, 8505 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75225. Senior Pastor, Neil Tomba, will officiate. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
