Richard Dean Dumas' Obituary
Richard Dean Dumas, age 76, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 in a Dallas care center after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home and the graveside service will be Saturday, August 18, at Restland Cemetery at 11:00 am. Richard was born in Gulfport, Mississippi to parents Armand and Margaret Dumas during World War II. He was always interested in the sea, loving swimming, boating, scuba diving, building model ships, and reading books about naval heroes and submarines. He moved with his parents to Fort Worth, TX and graduated from Paschal High School where he was active in ROTC. He worked for the Fort Worth Star Telegram and Armand Dumas Humble service station. He served in the U.S Navy submarine service and later graduated from UT Arlington with a degree in electrical engineering. He traveled the United States and Europe extensively in his work. He led a diverse professional life installing and maintaining computer systems and remodeling homes as a building contractor. In later life, he became a professional trainer and massage therapist. He participated in marathons and triathlons nationally and internationally and volunteered in the Special Olympics locally. He was an accomplished cook and was known for his elaborate birthday parties and Thanksgiving dinners. He was kindhearted, loved his family and friends and was a hard worker who always helped where needed. He is predeceased by his grandparents and parents. He is survived by his daughter, Lynnette Dumas and his son, Richard Dumas (Cheryl); grandsons, Brandon Dumas and Chandler Jones; his siblings: Ted Dumas (Janis), Russell Dumas (Dru), and Elise Jones (Ken); his former wife and friend, Irene Dumas , and a large and loving extended family. The family would like to thank the staffs of Medical City Dallas and Presbyterian Health Hospice and his caregiver, Abrahams Kingsman. Memorials may be sent to Texas Special Olympics.
