Richard (Dick) Earl Miner's Obituary
Richard E. Miner, 84, died peacefully on February 20, 2018.Dick was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Oct. 15, 1933. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Juris Doctorate degree. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves (Captain).Dick lived in Dallas since 1976. After his 28-year career as marketing manager with Texaco, he formed REM Productions, an advertising/marketing company.With his constant smile and big heart, he befriended countless people while giving back to the community. He raised patients’ spirits as a longtime volunteer at Parkland Hospital and impacted hundreds of children as mentor/tutor at Northwood Hills Elementary School. He was very active during his long affiliation with St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Richardson and coached youth hockey.Dick enjoyed sports, supporting his Minnesota Gophers, the Cowboys, and the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks. He was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fly fishing. As teenagers, he and his brothers built the beloved Blackhoof cabin in northern Minnesota, which still stands.He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Seaborn Miner; his brother Bill; his children, Petere, Richard (Rosemary), Polly Toohey (Mark), Sarah Nichols (Bill), and Rebecca Gray (James); stepchildren Laura (Malcolm), Linda (Phil), and Jennifer; grandchildren Taylor, Jaime and Hannah Nichols, Nick and Tom Miner, Greg, Jeff and Scott Toohey, Lauren Fernandez, Rena and Ella Gray and Benjy and Sadie Learner; and his great-grandchildren Aiden and Austin Toohey, and Sylvia Fernandez.In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church or the IDEA Foundation.Visitation at Restland Friday 6-8 p.m.; Service on Saturday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 10 a.m.
