Richard "Rick" Ferrell Ugarte's Obituary
72, beloved husband of Gail Ugarte passed away February 10, 2015. Born June 16, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to Everardo and Lanita Ugarte. He made Garland, Texas his home for the past 43 years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years; two children, son, Douglas E. Ugarte and his wife Natalie, grandsons James Eli Ugarte and Nicholas Lee Ugarte of McKinney and daughter, Pamela A. Ugarte of Dallas. He is also survived by his loving sister Sonia Ganter and her husband Lew of Sherman; brother-in-laws Bob Erskine, Mesquite and Richard Erskine and his wife Nisey, Flower Mound. His memory also lives on with many nieces, nephews and extended family. Rick was a graduate of Bryan Adams High School and the University of North Texas. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. After graduating he began teaching at Rusk Junior High School in Dallas. He served in the United States Army and became a Sergeant stationed in Germany in the 8th Infantry. After leaving the Army he returned to teaching. He changed careers and spent the next 26 years in sales, marketing, management and consulting in the healthcare industry. For many years he was also was in commercial real estate. Words can’t capture what Rick meant to those that knew him. He was loyal, honest, candid, encouraging, intuitive, empathetic, tough while still tender, and, above all, loving. Most that knew him when they were a child would remember his game of “hide the nose”, which Rick picked up from his Father. Later in life, Rick became “GaGa” to his two grandsons. Reading them stories, showing them new miracles of nature, and playing games were among his favorite moments. Memorial services are scheduled for 12:30 pm, Friday, March 6th, at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas with Reverend Clay Womack of First United Methodist Church, Garland, officiating.
