Richard Lee Hawkins' Obituary
Richard Hawkins, 75, was born June 26, 1941 to his parents Walter LC Hawkins and Margaret Coulter Hawkins in a US Army Hospital on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio Texas. Richard passed away on March 21, 2017 in Richardson Texas. Richard is preceded in death by his grandparents and father. He is survived by his mother, wife, two sons, a granddaughter and many wonderful cousins. Richard graduated South Oak Cliff High School in 1959. He loved working with animals and his first job was at Singing Hills Riding Stables shoeing horses. He took up rodeo and bull riding while there. He attended Arlington State University (UTA). He then began racing cars in SCCA Class with a ’60 “bug eyed” Sprite. Richard enlisted for 3 years with the Army and went to school for Microwave Radio. He did 3 tours and fought in Mekong River Delta and Sa Dec. Richard earned his Combat Infantryman Badge and the rank of SP-5(E-6). When he was honorably discharged he began work at Rockwell/Collins and retired after 35 years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richardson VFW Post 8627. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Restland Memorial Chapel. Burial to follow the funeral service with military honors being rendered by the United States Army. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
