Richard P. McLarnon's Obituary
McLarnon, Richard P. born July 26,1925 in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. Richard was a member of the airborne division of the U.S. army and received his Purple Heart after serving our country. He attended Gettysburg College on the GI bill and shortly after moved to Dallas to work for Sun Oil Co. Soon after his big move he married the love of his life, Zella Kate Banks in 1951. Left with treasured memories are countless loved ones, including his son, Mark McLarnon & wife, Kathleen; daughter, Margaret Townsend; grandchildren, Emily & husband, Clint Long, Zack & wife, Lauren McLarnon, Barrett Townsend, Adrian Townsend, Caleb, Noah & Esther McLarnon; great grandchildren, Georgia, Fin & Larnon Long; and close extended family, Bob & Martha Banks, Kret Townsend, Vickie Garelis and Norma Velasquez. Rich was preceded in death by his wife, Kate McLarnon and his brother, John M. McLarnon, Jr. The family would like to thank Denise, Emma, Lena, Paulina and Susan for their exceptional care and comfort they provided during the last few months. Rich and Kate were married for over 60 years and participated in the following endeavors; they were an instrumental part in moving The Heights Church to the Renner location, building churches in Bolgaria, involved in Richardson Methodist Cancer Center, Volgal Alcove, Family Gateway, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes & numerous other ministries. Rich served as the mayor of Lakeway, Texas. Rich had many passions in life and some of his favorites were his 50 year membership at Canyon Creek Country Club, golfing at famous golf courses around the world, sailing, working with his charities, studying investments, and quiet dinners with friends and family. Richard McLarnon passed away Saturday Evening. The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
