Richard Arnold Reed's Obituary
REED, RICHARD ARNOLD died peacefully on January 5, 2012 at his home of 54 years in Dallas, Texas. Born September 25, 1919 to Richard Lewis Reed and Emmie Lee Murphy of Pine Mills, Texas, he was preceded in death in 2006 by his wife of 67 years and the love of his life Cecil Reed. He was born and raised near Mineola in Pine Mills, Texas into an original founding family of Pine Mills. He graduated from Mineola High School at age 15 during which time a love for music began that he carried throughout his life. After his service in the Army Air Corps, he worked for the General Services Administration from 1944 until he retired in 1979 as the head of Supply for GSA region 8. During his tenure, he coordinated and oversaw the construction of the LBJ Library at the University of Texas. He was also an avid golfer and a charter member of Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas. He was beloved by all who knew him because of his contagious smile and gregarious personality and his presence here on earth will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by their son Ronald Reed and wife Linda, grandson Richard Reed and wife Ann, grandson Jeff Reed and wife Jamie and 4 great grandchildren Emily, Jackson, Grant and Nicholas. He was completely devoted to his family for all of his years. Services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Abbey Mausoleum at Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Fund at Lake Highlands Baptist Church, 642 Brookhurst Drive, Dallas, Texas 75218 or the American Heart Association.
