Richard Henry Shaw's Obituary
Richard Henry Shaw went home to the Lord on October 9, 2008, after a valiant battle with congestive heart failure. A native of Springfield, Mass., he was a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at the University of Pennsylvania and served for two years in the Air Force. Rich began his career in mortgage lending and real estate development at Monarch Life Insurance Co. in Springfield. He came to Dallas in 1975 to head Murray Management Co. In 1989, Rich helped form Anterra Realty Corp. where he served as chief executive officer until his retirement in 1994. Rich was devoted to his church, the First United Methodist Church of Richardson. He served on numerous committees, was instrumental in the capital campaign for the new church campus, and sang faithfully in the choir, even in failing health. Rich was most devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Kain Shaw, daughter Nancy Shaw and son-in-law Michael Olvera of Dallas, daughter Susan Shaw-Meadow and son-in-law Robert Shaw-Meadow of San Antonio, Texas, and six grandchildren: Emily and Margaret Olvera, and Beth, Nathan, Katie, and Erin Shaw-Meadow. Rich is also survived by his brother Lewis Shaw and sister-in-law Carol Roper Shaw of Scottsdale, Arizona, and sister-in-law Mary Fan Kain of Dallas. Also included in Rich’s family are nephew Rob Shaw and his wife Caroline Shaw and their three children Charlie, Carrie, and Will of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, nephew David Shaw of Oxford Mass., niece Mary Jo Kain Earle and her husband Doric Earle and their children Devan and Aidan of Dallas, niece Joanna Kain Gentsch and her husband John Gentsch and their children Sarah and Rebecca of Dallas. He was pre-deceased by niece Martha Shaw of Oakland, Ca. Rich loved nature, family gatherings, music, his church community, and new challenges, taking up snow and water skiing at age 40, and the piano at age 65. Visitation Tuesday October 14 from 6pm ‘ 8pm at Restland, 13005 Greenville Ave. Memorial service Wednesday October 15 at 11am at First United Methodist Church of Richardson, 503 North Central Expressway. Gifts in the memory of Richard Henry Shaw may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Richardson.
