Richard Carl Thomas' Obituary
Richard Carl Thomas passed away on January 2, 2020, following a long battle with health complications. The son of Beatrice Merritt, he was born in Oneonta, New York, a rural community where he developed a love for hunting and fishing. Following his high school graduation, he proudly enlisted in the Air Force and earned several medals during the Vietnam War.
After being honorably discharged, he settled in the Dallas metroplex and built a 30 year career with a security company. When he retired, his love of fishing lured him to the Dallas Fly Fishers Club. There, he volunteered to teach fly fishing and fly tying to diverse groups, including seniors, veterans, and high school and college students.
Richard was devoted to his family and became especially close to those members who lived near him. He will be remembered as a humble, quiet, generous man who treated everyone with dignity and respect and whose priority in life was taking care of those he loved.
He is survived by four siblings and their spouses, several nieces and nephews, several great nieces and nephews, and other family members who will deeply feel this loss. In addition, there are two terriers that will truly miss their favorite dog sitter!
A Memorial Service for Richard Thomas will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 3:00 PM. The location is Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243.
