Richard ("Dick") Vernon Moore's Obituary
Richard (“Dick”) Vernon Moore passed away January 31, 2018, in Tyler, Texas at the age of 88. The oldest of four children, Dick was born May 20, 1929, to Mel Ross and Theosia Moore in Notamine, West Virginia. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, West Virginia in 1947.Dick attended Rice University and the University of Houston before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He served and was wounded in Korea and awarded the Purple Heart.Upon returning from Korea, he attended and graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1955, Dick went to work for Southwestern Bell, ultimately retiring from AT&T in 1983. In the meantime, he married Joann Miller in January of 1978,After he retired, Dick and JoAnn moved to Lake Palestine, Texas where they could live on the lake around other telephone company friends. Eventually, they moved to Tyler, Texas.Dick was both a gentleman and a gentleman, beloved by his friends and family. He enjoyed traveling, was a wonderful woodworker, an avid reader and enjoyed good Scotch. He will be greatly missed.He is predeceased by his parents, Mel Ross and Theosia Moore and his sister Mary Reba. He is survived by wife JoAnn Moore of Tyler, brother Thomas Moore of Houston, brother Harrison Moore of Friendswood, daughter Terri Moore of Dallas, son, and daughter-in-law Michael and Robyn Moore of Rio Rancho, NM and grandchildren Taylor, Rachel, and Richard Moore.The family would like to thank those friends who visited Dick and supported the family with their presence and prayers. The family would especially like to thank those who work at the Hospice of East Texas for their wonderful care.Visitation will be held Sunday, February 4th at Restland from 12:00- 1:00 with a graveside service following.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice of East Texas.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
