Drilma Richard Vezina's Obituary
Drilma Richard Vezina was born November 19, 1920 in Church Point, LA and Heaven gained a beautiful, sweet, precious angel on Tuesday September 15, 2015 Drilma & God prepared her family and friends three years ago when she was diagnosed with Renal Carcinoma. The doctor gave her a few months, but God gave her longer life. As a brave, strong-willed and faithfully devoted to her faith in God, she chose to live life without treatment. Over the course of the three years her health decreased and slowly gave way to Congestive Heart Failure. Her physical weakness and lack of breath recently brought her in to Presby Hospital of Rockwall, where God took her home peacefully in her sleep. She was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy (Pop) Vezina and numerous other family members. In her younger years, her & Pop took professional dance lessons at Arthur Murray in Lake Charles, LA and would compete with other people, winning 1st place. She was a native of Louisiana who resided in Texas for the last 20 years. Annually, she looked forward to the crawfish season in Louisiana and would return home to visit with relatives, to eat boudin, cracklings, gumbo and clean crawfish. During the 6 hour road trip, she would take a night stay at the Bossier City casinos and enjoyed trying her luck at the penny machines. Drilma enjoyed the outdoors. Whether it was gardening or just plain sitting in the sun. Her family would gather at her house on each occasion for an outdoor bar-b-que, with her special homemade bar-b-que sauce and the world’s best rice dressing. Her & Pop spent most of their retired life fishing together and camping thru out the USA both with family and groups of friends. She loved her church, Saint John’s Apostle Catholic Church in Terrell and would attend daily mass and monthly the St. John’s Senior’s Group. At the group gathering she was always a winner whether it was the door prizes, regular bingo, bingo black-outs and/or the special party grand prize. Her favorite indoor pass-times were to play the game Aggravation, SkipBo cards, jigsaw puzzles and crocheting blankets for her family members to treasure forever! In her later years, her love for adventure took her to the summit of Stone Mountain, GA., tour guided bus to Tennessee, a trip to Colorado, a cruise to Alaska, Mexico and to Hawaii. Her fearless nature allowed her to ride a Motorcycle and was looking forward to doing it again. She was survived by four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and their loved ones. Mom’s survived loved ones have said their greatest memories of Mom is that: She never caused strife for anyone in any circumstance; she felt that God was preparing a place in heaven for them, as much as he was preparing a place for her; we loved cooing with her and learning how to cook her way; we would say “I love you” and she would say “but I loved you first”. Drilma (Mom) was a very accepting, forgiving, generous, gracious, patient, tenacious and most important person in all of our lives and we are both privileged and grateful to have her for so long. “We will all love you and miss you Mom Last from Heaven & Back”. Gravesite services will be held at Restland Memorial Park, Evergreen Garden secton, Lot 202, space 3. For directions into the park, please drive forward to the outdoor manned information booth for a map. Please join the family afterwards at Drilma’s homestead in Royse City for Soulman’s Bar-B-Que lunch and sharing of lasting memories. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 at Restland Road.
