Rita Love Day's Obituary
Rita Love Day, 79, of Dallas Texas passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. With her family gathered around her, telling stories of her life, Rita went “home” to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Rita is survived by her husband, Rex Day, their children, Laura “Lynn” Boulton and her husband Tony, Ross Day, and Daniel Ted Day and his wife Stephanie, their grandchildren, Amanda Conway and her husband Tyler, Sam Day, Josie Day, Millie Day, Claire Day, Ginny Honescko and her husband Joey, and Rex Day, and their great-granddaughters, Jensen Endicott and Peggy Sue Conway. She is also survived by her sisters, Juanita Brock and her husband Travis, Sharon Wooldridge, Shirley Castle and her husband Don, and brothers Donnie Love and his wife Camille, and H.B. Love, a host of nephews and nieces and special friend and caregiver LeAnn Tanner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Wanda Ray.
Rita was born March 3, 1940 in Spur, Texas to Teddy and Viola Love. She was the oldest of her seven siblings and was like a second mother to many of them. She lived in Texas her entire life, graduating from Bowie High School in 1958, settling in Ft. Worth and eventually Dallas.
In 1963, she met the love of her life, Rex Lynn Day, at a dance where Rex was playing in the band when he noticed his “sweetheart” from the first moment that she entered the room. They married on December 18, 1965 and made their home in Dallas, Texas. They had one daughter and two sons. Their family grew to include seven grandchildren and two great- granddaughters. “Granny Rita”, or “Nana”, was extremely proud of all of them.
Rita was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church and was very active in both the Browning Club of Dallas and the Dallas County Council of Republican Women. She enjoyed painting and loved dancing, especially to western swing. She and Rex would often spontaneously break into song at their kitchen table, harmonizing with one another to some classic country tune.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
Funeral and interment, also at Restland, are scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2020 at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Ray Owens officiating and B.D Henry provide the eulogy. Serving as pallbearers are Bud Ainsworth, Dan Benzon, Alan Moore, Nick Nicholson, Scott Raley and Mike Rogers.
