Robert "Bob" Awanessian's Obituary
Robert ‘Bob’ Awanessian, 87, passed away November 8, 2024.
Born in 1937 in Latakia, Syria to Paul & Rose Awanessian. Grew up traveling all over the Middle East and Europe. He was highly educated at the American Jesuit taught Baghdad College Preparatory School in Baghdad, Iraq. Then in 1955 he traveled halfway across the world to attend The University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering in 1960, then went on to earn his Master’s Degree at UT Arlington in the early 70’s. He was blessed with 2 children, his son Rob, and his daughter Marie. He was further blessed to be ‘Pops’ to 2 grandchildren.
He remained a loyal Texas Longhorn fan & supporter throughout his entire life. He worked at Texas Instruments in both Dallas and Lubbock for 20 years, then did independent consulting work, including designing laboratories for military bases and NASA for many, many years. His work took him to the Philippines, Japan, Italy, and all over the United States. He was a natural storyteller and could talk to anyone. He was always ready with a riddle, joke, or fun fact. He loved recalling his work, his travels and life adventures to countless colleagues, friends and family. The last few years he was a happy resident at Liberty Heights Retirement Living, near Marie’s family, where he made many friends and hosted ‘Movies with Bob’ every afternoon in their on-site theater. He truly enjoyed a full and wonderful life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Rob Awanessian. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Jody Pendleton, and grandsons, Sam Pendleton and Jake Pendleton. The family would like to thank the managers & staff at Liberty Heights for their outstanding kindness to Bob the last few years. Also, to The Key Home Help Agency, especially Jill, who provided such loving, compassionate care.
Following a private family graveside service, a memorial service will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel in Dallas on Friday November 22, 2024, at 10:30 am with a reception for family and friends from 11:30-1:30pm.
