Robert (Bob) Joseph Thomas' Obituary
Robert Joseph (Bob) Thomas of Plano, Texas, was born on June 25,1952 on the army base at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He passed into the arms of God on February 24, 2025, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's Disease. Bob is survived by his wife, Dr. Susan (Sue) Cruse, one brother, Phillip Thomas, nieces Edwina Thomas Lane, Audra Thomas, Katie Thomas Schlebach, and Rachel Thomas, and nephews Shawn Thomas, and Dr. Matthew Thomas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edwina Taylor Thomas, his father Captain Ralph Thomas, and his oldest brother, Ralph Thomas.
In his youth Bob enjoyed adventures in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, often speaking fondly of his experiences at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, spending weekends camping, enjoying water sports, fishing, and grilling. Growing up was not easy for Bob, as his mother died of cancer when he was 13, and his father died of heart failure when he was 21.
Bob and his wife Sue met while attending Custer Road UMC in 2007 and soon discovered that they had both attended Cary Junior High School and Thomas Jefferson High School in North Dallas in their youth. Having similar backgrounds growing up, they soon became close friends and married at Custer Road on May 2, 2009. Bob left his job with Texas Instruments to pursue a Home Inspection career but was stricken with Alzheimer's Disease soon after that endeavor. Sue and Bob were able to enjoy several memorable years and trips/excursions together in spite of his illness, until travel became too difficult.
Bob’s Celebration of Life will be held at Custer Road UMC on March 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM in The Venue Modern Worship Center. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a gift to Alzheimer's Research in the name and memory of Robert Joseph Thomas.
