Robert "Bobby" Burt Thompson's Obituary
Robert “Bobby” Burt Thompson, 71, passed away March 8, 2022. He was son to RW and Bertha Thompson, and older brother to Tommy Thompson.
Growing up in Texas it did not take long for him to fall in love with the sport of basketball. He was a 3 year varsity athlete at W.W. Samuell High School where he attended from 1966-1968. As a senior, he was All City MVP, All Metro MVP and second team All-State. He went on to play basketball at Tyler Junior College from 1968-1969, where he made the All-Tournament team at Nationals in 1969. From there he had the opportunity to continue to play at Baylor University.
Bobby always had a restless spirit that took him all over the country, but he chose to stay and raise his family in Georgia. His daughter, Katharine, and son, Robert W., continue to reside there today.
Able to make friends everywhere he went, he enjoyed being the life of the party. Lover or reading and all things Texan, he could strike up a conversation with anyone around him. His friends and family will feel the loss of his presence.
Although he spent his final days in his childhood city of Dallas, Texas, he will be laid to rest in Georgia where his children and his two grandsons, Everett and Riley, may visit with him.
