Robert Dale Buckner's Obituary
ROBERT DALE “BUCK” BUCKNER, 87, of Las Colinas, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on February 8, 2009. Born on January 9, 1922, in Satin, Texas to Lillie and Sheldon Buckner, he graduated from Breckenridge High School, Breckenridge, Texas. He began studies at Hardin Simmons University, but his education was interrupted by WWII, where he served in the U.S. Army Air Force Engineers in Guam and Okinawa from October 1942 to January 1946. He was a Sergeant in the 1885 Engineer Aviation Battalion and was awarded the Bronze Star. A long-time resident of Dallas, he and his wife, Dixie, were members of Tyler Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He and Dixie were past-Presidents of the Anniversary Class and Dale was a teacher of the Class up until a few months before his passing. Buck was President, Chairman and C.E.O. of Sam P. Wallace Inc., an international mechanical contracting firm, for many years, remained active in the industry at C.M.C. Energy Inc., and Trevino Mechanical Company, where he retired in 2007. He served as past-President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Dallas and MCA of Texas, was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, Local No. 100, and was a Shriner for over 50 years out of Hella Temple, Garland, Texas. In recognition of his contributions to the MCA of Dallas, and to the industry as a whole, the R. D. “Buck” Buckner College Scholarship fund was established in his honor. Dale was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Dixie Louise Thomson Buckner, and brother, Thomas Buckner. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bruce Land; granddaughters, Kimberly Cormier and husband Philip, Stacy Odom and husband Daniel; greatgrandchildren, Lily and Olivia Cormier and Riley Odom; numerous nephews, neices and many loyal friends. He was the eternal optimist, always a positive thinker, and will be dearly missed by all. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 10th at Restland Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be made to Tyler Street United Methodist Church, 927 W. Tenth St. Dallas, Texas 75208.
