Robert Kent Caldwell's Obituary
Robert “Kent” Caldwell, a devoted family man, Actuary for 34 years, Texas Longhorn fan/alumnus, and proud “Poppa” of 5 grandchildren, died May 14th, 2019 at the age of 77 in Dallas, Texas.Kent is survived by the love of his life, Carol Walker Caldwell, his wife of 54 years and his devoted children, his daughters Ellen Barry and Carolyn Wolf and their husbands Brian Barry and Marquette Wolf, and 5 grandchildren Lukas, Catherine, and Cassidy Barry, and Ashton and Wyatt Wolf all of Dallas, Texas, as well as his brother Marshal Caldwell and wife Carol Caldwell, and niece and nephew Latricia Malone and Christopher Caldwell and their spouses Rodney Malone and Ashley Caldwell, all of Longview, Texas. He is also survived by his beloved English bulldog “Rosebud”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Stanford Caldwell and Doris Jenny Vaughan of Longview, Texas.Kent was born on October 25th, 1941 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in Longview, Texas. He graduated high school from Longview High in May of 1959 and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (UT) in May of 1964. During his time at UT, Kent earned a BBA and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.Upon graduating from UT, Kent joined The Wyatt Company in Dallas where he spent his impressive 34-year career as an actuary. He achieved multiple accreditations as an actuary as well as membership in the Conference and Society of Actuaries, American Academy of Actuaries, and served on the Joint Board for the enrollment of Actuaries. Upon retirement in 1998, he singularly focused on family and friends. Kent and his family enjoyed cool summers, as well as winter snowmobiling, with friends in Angel Fire, New Mexico. Kent especially enjoyed his monthly Friday night poker group for many years. He also was a devoted follower of Texas Longhorn baseball and football and especially loved to visit Omaha, Nebraska for the College World Series. He dedicated significant time coordinating alumni activities for his Longview Lobo classmates. Kent knew how to welcome people. For everyone he met, he would create a nickname that was unique and for his use only. This was his personal way to remember and greet those friends from that point forward.The visitation for Robert will be held on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 from 6:00 -8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home.The Memorial service and celebration of Robert’s life will be held Monday, May 20th, 2019 at 11:00 AM at The Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Humane Society of Dallas County.
