Robert (Bob) Charles Haller's Obituary
HALLER, ROBERT (BOB) CHARLES was born March 24, 1940 in Dallas to Elmer Charles and Mary Camille Pearce Haller. He grew up in Dallas in a happy home. Bob was smart, and despite impaired vision graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was in ROTC and Junior Achievement. Bob’s career began at the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind where he was a door-to-door salesman for 16 years, making friends with co-workers and customers. He received a Distinguished Salesman Award from the Dallas Sales Executive Club in 1966. Training through the State Commission for the Blind prepared him to run his own business. He became the hard-working, successful owner and operator of Bayou City Vending in the downtown Houston Post Office for 26 years. In 1986 (at age 46) Bob married Irene Hardy Schroeder. He enjoyed their home and his new family life. When Irene became ill, he lovingly cared for her until her death in 2003. Retiring in 2006 he returned to Dallas. Reestablishing ties with the Lighthouse community, he met Nelda Hendricks. They were married from 2008 to 2012. Bob enjoyed family life again, until he encountered significant health challenges. Crescent Place Assisted Living in Cedar Hill became his home for three years. His family is thankful for that staff and for caregivers who were with him throughout his final illness. They also appreciate members of LDS churches who befriended and supported Bob over 26 years. Bob was kind-hearted, friendly, generous, conscientious, and had a positive outlook and keen sense of humor. He was dedicated to family, friends, business associates, church and his Heavenly Father. He met challenges with grace and perseverance and had a rich and meaningful life. Bob will be missed by those who admired and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; nephew, Gary and brother-in-law, Gene Browder. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Browder and her sons, Russ and Greg and his wife, Debby, and their sons Paul and Aaron. Also his brother, John Ford Haller and his wife, Ann, and their children, Austin and Kim and her husband, Robert. He is also fondly remembered by his step-children, Paulette Schroeder Janca and her husband, Bobby, Barbara Schroeder Hillsman, Bryan Schroeder and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1019 Big Stone Gap, Duncanville, TX 75137. Family will greet visitors at 9:30 AM and also after the service.
