Robert Lee Davis' Obituary
Robert Lee Davis was born in the family home in Grandview, Texas on March 3, 1930. He grew up on the farm in Grandview before attending Hillsboro Junior College and the University of North Texas. He earned his degree in Denton, but, more importantly, met his future wife, Janice there. He and Jan were married for more than 57 years before she died in 2009.
Bob served in the Navy Medical Core near Chicago during the Korean Conflict, then he and Jan returned to Texas to make their home in Dallas. He worked in the field of Public Relations for most of his career, but his outgoing personality led him to stint working for Channel 8 in the early 1960's as a cameraman, director and the on-air companion to Julie Benell on her cooking show. He retired as the Director of Public Relations for Commercial Metals Company where he helped create the "Scrap Can Be Beautiful" sculpture contest with students from Booker T. Washington High School. Bob was an active member of Central Lutheran Church for ove r60 years.
Bob loved art and was an avid patron of visual arts, the symphony, opera, theater and dance. He spent decades playing with the Bridge Club and laughing with the Dinner Club. He and Jan traveled to many corners of the world before she came down with Alzheimer's, then he spent several years as her loving caregiver.
His survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Beth & Rick Garcia, Ann & Dave Graham and Amy & David Brown, grandchildren Lauren Graham, Robert Brown, Leigh Garcia & her husband, Connor Ryan, Brad Graham, Rachel Brown and Meg Garcia and many other loved ones.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Central Luteran Church at 1000 Easton Rd. Dallas TX 75218.
