Robert Lee Drummond's Obituary
Mr. Robert Lee (Bob) Drummond, 82, of Garland, Texas passed away on Friday, July 10, 2020. Bob was born on July 10, 1938 in Newport, Arkansas. He was the son of Ralph and Emma Drummond.
Bob Graduated from Gideon High School in Gideon, Missouri in 1956. He attended General Motors Technical Institute in Flint, Michigan while employed with General Motors Corporation from 1956 until 1958. In 1959 Bob moved to St. Louis, Missouri and started working for Chrysler Corporation. In 1960 Bob’s son Robert Alan (Rob) was born.
Bob began his public health career in 1963 as an Animal Control Officer with the City of Dallas Health Department. He received special recognition for his work relating to animal control education through the Dallas and Richardson Independent School Districts. In 1967 Bob became a field supervisor with the Dallas Health Department’s weed control and general sanitation programs. Bob served as a field supervisor with the Vector Control Division from 1972 until 1980 where he was instrumental in setting up an integrated mosquito control program combining biological and chemical control along with community education. During this time Bob also served as the health department’s liaison and advisor to the City of Dallas Housing and Urban Rehabilitation Standard Board. From 1980 until his retirement in 1994, Bob served as an environmental health specialist with the Dallas Health Department’s food and swimming pool inspection program.
Bob served as a member of the Texas Public Health Association (TEHA) for over 40 years and attended the annual training and educational conferences for many of those years. He served on the Executive Board/Governing Council of the Association. Bob served as the President of the TEHA in 1994.
Bob loved to travel, especially by motor vehicle. Bob, his wife and daughter traveled to all 50 states and Canada, Hawaii the only state that he did not drive. He was a big Southern Gospel Music fan, he often attended concerts featuring groups like J.D. Sumner & the Stamps Quartet, the Blackwood Brothers, the Statesmen, and the Cathedrals. More recently he traveled extensively to catch the Melody Boy’s (probably his favorite Quartet).
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Emma Drummond; and by his daughter Karen Drummond.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years Barbara Drummond. He is also survived by his son Robert (Rob) Drummond and wife Patricia; three grandchildren, Danielle Siverling and husband Aaron, Sandra Drummond, and James (J.D.) Drummond; and his brothers Jim Drummond, and Ralph Drummond, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home (Memorial Chapel), 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas Texas on Monday July 27, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
