Robert Taylor Dry Sr.,'s Obituary
DRY, SR., ROBERT TAYLOR On October 4, 1921, the world became a better place. Robert Taylor Dry was born to Robert L. Paine and Margaret Taylor Paine in Ft. Smith, Ark. He died December 23, 2013, surrounded by the family he loved. He enjoyed life fully, and had a wit that brought laughter to any situation. With a genuine smile and his typical easy-going manner, he had the ability to befriend anyone, from the janitor to the CEO, and he enjoyed those friendships equally. He was driven to help those in need, the underdog, sick children, veterans, and anyone in a tough spot, and he did so frequently. Because of the depression, Bob’s family moved around, and over the years he also lived with various relatives, primarily dividing his time between Tulsa, OK and Mount Morris, IL. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1940, and was eventually stationed in Midland, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Elaine Hedrick. They enjoyed nearly 68 wonderful years together. They moved to Dallas in 1967. An extraordinary salesman, Bob founded Midco Sling & Cable, and the business prospered under his direction. After retirement, he and Elaine took many great trips together, enjoyed their grandchildren and many good friends. He also devoted time to their cabin at his beloved West Lakes and his many friends there. He loved fishing and enjoyed golf. He never made a hole in one, but he did stomp a few hats. He loved the fall because that meant football season, and the chance to watch the UT Longhorns, where he attended after the war. He was a church leader at Schreiber United Methodist Church. He volunteered in the ER at Parkland Hospital. He was a youth coach and Sunday school teacher. He loved the United States of America and was a great patriot. Bob will be missed by his wife Elaine; his children, Bob Dry, Jr. (DeAnn), Doug Dry, and Sue Dry Kay (Ken); his 8 grandchildren, Bob Dry, III (Vanessa), Ryan Dry (Tracey), Dr. Julie Dry, Angie Dry Francis (Matt), Joe Dry, Kelly Kay Vidrine (Quinn), Scott Kay, and Rachel Kay; and his 10 great grandchildren, Victoria, Taylor, Violet, Dylan, Ella, Dalton, Payne, Matthew, Hailey, and Dexter, as well as his cousin Jody Jackson (Clyde). A memorial service will be held at Highland Springs, 8000 Frankford Rd., Dallas on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:30 AM. A second memorial service will be held at Schreiber United Methodist Church, 4525 Rickover Dr., Dallas on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 2:30 PM.
