Robert Moore Erskine's Obituary
Erskine, Robert Moore was received into the arms of his loving Lord on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. He was born on May 12, 1922 in El Paso, IL to his parents, George and Lucille. Robert was the youngest of three children. After graduating from Danville, IL High School, he served as a Major in the Air Force from 1942-1946 during World War II as a combat pilot with two tours of duty in the Pacific Theatre. Robert earned the Air Medal, China Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Phillipine Liberation Medal and the Bronze Star. “The best day of his life” was the day he married Evelyn Louise Cummins, his “love and closest friend for 59 years and four months” in Danville, IL on August 12, 1945. They were blessed with three children. He attended Rose Hullman Institute and graduated with honors in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Robert was elected to Tau Beta Pi, Honorary Engineering Fraternity. He served three years on Rose Hullman National Advisory Board. He was a resident of Dallas, Texas for over 40 years and was employed by Shell Oil Co., Halliburton, and retired as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Continental Emsco after 33 years. Robert was a member of Grace Bible Church, Bent Tree Country Club, Dallas Athletic Club, Dallas Petroleum Club, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing golf three times a week and spending time with his family. Robert will be remembered by his children, Erin Boles, her husband, Robert Boles, and their children Brittany and Brandon; Leighton Todd Erskine, his wife, Laurie, and their children, Shayna, Krista, Erica and Collin; Ann Shannon Hassell and her husband, Dr. Scott Hassell and their children, Madison, Grayson and Tristan. He is also survived by his brother, Kendell Erskine, age 91, and his wife Wanda. Kendell was in the 27th Infantry Division of the New York National Guard during WW II. Robert was predeceased by the love of his life, Evelyn Erskine, and his brother, Wendell A. Erskine (twin to Kendell Erskine), a First Lt. in the U.S. Marine Corps, killed in action during WWII on Iwo Jima on February 19, 1945. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 4-6pm at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral service on Monday, June 13, 2011 at 10am at Restland Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
