Robert Allen Flowers' Obituary
Robert was the only child of Gerald E and Donnie White Flowers. He was born in Grand Saline, Van Zandt County, Texas, 27 September 1928 while his father was working with the rural electrification project. When he was only a few years old, his family moved back to the Flowers farm that had been in the family for 4 generations. Robert grew up farming, raising chickens, cattle, and was part owner of
the family dairy when he graduated Mabank High School at age 17 years. He played all sports in school, and sang in a quartet for his church. When he married Dorothy Mae Pleasant, the love of his life, at 19 years, they soon moved to Dallas, Texas. His first job off the farm was with Proctor & Gamble Company. Dorothy thought this work too dangerous, so he got another job with Katy Railroad in lost and found , and later as a billing clerk. He'd gone to Draughon Business College at 17, but didn't like dorm life, so went back to the farm after a few weeks, but learned to type 120 words a minute. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves and was soon called up for the Korean War. After the war, using the GI Bill, he earned an engineering degree from SMU and worked for Ford Motor Company as a draftsman until the plant moved from Dallas. He then went back and earned a Traffic Management Certification and worked for Texas Instruments for many years. Along the way, Robert and Dorothy had three children: Beverly Anne married John "Butch" Gentle, Robert Michael Flowers married Cheryl Brown and Donald Mark Flowers married Virginia Parker. They have 6 grandchildren: John and Eris Gentle, Jamison and Ruth Gentle, Alexis and Dustin Lucas, Logan M Flowers, Steven and Janice Flowers, Sean and Natalie Flowers. Also, eleven great-grandchildren: Hero and Archer Gentle; Amariah, Asher, Aria, Ariel and Asa Gentle; Alivia and Isabelle Lucas; Liam Flowers and Benson Flowers. Robert lost Dorothy almost two years ago, on 11
August 2021, and has been ready for the Lord to call him home ever since.
