Robert Dale Gentry's Obituary
Robert Dale Gentry joined his wife, Grace, in their heavenly home on November 30,2014. Dale was born in Searcy, Arkansas on December 1,1927. His childhood was characterized by diligent work and dedication to his family’s businesses and schoolwork, often working the dairy cows before school, working in the blacksmith shop after school, and doing his studies by kerosene lamp before bed. Dale served our country in the Navy and the National Guard ’45-’49. He met, and wooed Grace in 1950, marrying on November 9 of the same year. After marriage, he served again in the Navy ’51-’55 and the National Guard until final discharge in 1957. His first son, Robert Edward, was born in March of 1954 on a Rhode Island Naval Base. After discharge, Dale returned to Arkansas as a student at the University in Fayetteville and graduated in 1959. Employment with Texas Instruments brought the family to Dallas, Texas where their second son, Eddie Earl, was born in Garland in December 1960. After another move to Austin, Texas, the family settled for good in Rlchardscn.Texas in 1972. It was this in home Dale and Grace both lived the rest of their lives. By his family, he will be remembered as loyal and loving husband to Grace, a dedicated role model and father to his sons, a steady guide and dinner-spoiler to his seven grandchildren, and a giant pillow and M&M delivery system to his three young great-grandchildren. By the community, he will be remembered as a legend at TI, the friendly wave from the patio swing to all his neighbors, a helpful or funny email in the inbox for those on his emaillist, a man important to many. He is survived by his sister, Patty Gentry Meade and her husband Clyde of Springfield, Virginia; two sons, Robert Edward Gentry and his wife, Julie Ann of Richardson; Eddie Earl Gentry and his wife Gina Lynn of Plano; seven grandchildren, Krista Leigh Gentry, Robert Dale Gentry II, Chad Leland Gentry, William Lucas Gentry, Jessica Lee Durrett and her husband Austin Luke, Melinda Jeanne Vieira and her husband Jay Michael, and Jennalee Grace Gentry; three great-children, Carter Leland Gentry, Cavan Luke Durrett, and Tessa Grace Durrett. Robert Gentry’s family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Robert Gentry will take place at 10:00am on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
