Robert Randall Glickman's Obituary
Robert Randall “Randy” Glickman, 74, passed peacefully on July 25, 2025, at his home in Carrollton, Texas. He was born on February 25, 1951, in Dallas, Texas, to Joe Glickman Sr. and Billie Lee Glickman.
Randy was raised in Greenway Parks and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, where he was known for both his talent and love of football. He developed strong friendships during those years that he cherished for the rest of his life. He went on to attend Northwood University for two years.
From a young age, Randy had the heart of a merchant. His very first storefront was made from cardboard and stocked with “borrowed” goods from his mother’s kitchen. As a teenager, he launched a successful fireworks business, employing family and friends—and sparking a lifelong love of “sign warfare” and entrepreneurial adventure.
He began his career working alongside his father at Margo’s LaMode, starting in the stockrooms of stores and the company warehouse. In 1978, he married Phyllis Hardcastle Glickman in Dallas, beginning a lifelong partnership. He loved working with his father and Phyllis, and remained at Margo’s until the sale of the company in 1979. After Margo’s, he partnered with Jim Argyropoulos to open a chain of retail stores featuring the Cherokee of California brand.
Following the sale of that business’s retail division, Randy and his family returned to Dallas. Seizing the opportunity to once again work with his father, he opened Vantage Shoe Warehouse and expanded it to 15 locations across the region.
In later years, Randy pivoted to online retail, pursuing ventures that blended his entrepreneurial spirit with his personal passions. These included Handmade in Italy, with his friend Larry Matney; Lone Star Shoes, with his son Matthew; and online sales of baseball cards and comic books through eBay.
Randy will be remembered for his infectious smile, generous spirit, and deep love for his family. His children and grandchildren were his greatest joy. He was a lifelong collector—with interests ranging from baseball cards and comic books to antique railroad pocket watches and more.
He also had a deep and enthusiastic interest in extraterrestrial life. A proud member of MUFON (Mutual UFO Network), he could happily talk for hours about the topic.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Billie Glickman. He is survived by Phyllis Hardcastle Glickman; his children:
- Alex Randall Glickman**, wife Kimberly Lepard Glickman
- Elizabeth Ann Glickman, husband Santiago Delgado
- Robert Matthew Glickman, wife Holly Tiller Glickman
And by his beloved grandchildren: Rex, Cameron, Natalie, Gabriela, Ramona, Grace, Greta, and Gwen.
He is also survived by his siblings: Joe Glickman Jr., Steven Craig Glickman, and Ellene Glickman Hood.
In addition to his own children, Randy was a father figure to countless others—many of them friends of his kids—offering them a place to land, encouragement when they needed it most, and always a way forward.
Randy’s presence, humor, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will remain forever in our hearts.
