Robert Alan Hejl's Obituary
Robert Alan Hejl, 84, passed away on December 22, 2025, in Dallas, Texas. Born on February 27, 1941, in Temple, Texas, Robert lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, a sharp sense of humor, and a deep appreciation for history, music, and the natural world.
Robert graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1967. His education laid the foundation for a successful professional life grounded in diligence and integrity.
He was a man who found joy in many things—none more so than his grandchildren. Time spent with Nicholas and Katherine brought him immense happiness and pride. His love for them was evident to all who knew him.
Robert had a lifelong fascination with World War II battles and aircraft. This interest reflected his keen intellect and curiosity about history. In recent years, he reignited his passion for reading science fiction novels—a genre that sparked his imagination and offered hours of enjoyment. He also loved watching classic films on Turner Classic Movies, often revisiting cinematic treasures from decades past.
Music played a vibrant role in Robert’s life. A devoted fan of Rock & Roll from the 1950s through the 1980s, he attended numerous concerts over the last fifteen years. These experiences brought him great joy and connected him to an era that shaped much of his identity.
Animals held a special place in Robert’s heart. Over the years, he cared for many beloved pets and shared a close bond with his current dog, Daisy. His concern extended beyond his own home—he was deeply interested in environmental issues affecting butterfly populations, pollution, and the health of our planet.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Leah Flora (Hay) Hejl; his son David Alan Hejl; daughter-in-law Jennifer Ann (Iglio) Hejl; grandchildren Nicholas David Hejl and Katherine Rose Hejl; sister Susan Kay Hejl; nephew Michael David Hejl; great-nephews Cory Hejl and Bryce Hejl.
He was preceded in death by his father Edmond Henry Hejl; mother Milady Henrietta (Blaha) Hejl; former spouse Karen Joy (Andrews) Hejl—the mother of his son David; brother Charles Michael Hejl; and nephew Alan Edward Hejl.
Those who knew Robert remember him as a humorous cut up who cherished time with family and valued close friendships. Above all else, he was a good man—steadfast in character and generous in spirit.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire love, laughter, and kindness. A Memorial Service will be held on January 31, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home & Cemetery, with a reception following the service at the event center at Restland Funeral Home & Cemetery.
