Robert Laurence Jay's Obituary
JAY, ROBERT LAURENCE Our dear father and husband, Larry Jay passed away on September 4, 2013 after a very brief illness. His parents, George and Adele Jay, preceded him in death. He graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO in 1953. Larry attended Kenyon College and graduated with degree in Economics in 1957. He attended Law School at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, in 1963 graduated with his Juris Doctor. He practiced law in Kansas City until 1971, when he accepted a teaching position at Texas Tech University Law School in Lubbock, TX. While he was a law professor, Larry coached a Moot Court team that advanced to New York City to argue in front of the New York Supreme Court. In 1974, Larry moved his family to Dallas, TX where he worked for Enserch Oil Exploration (Lone Star Gas Co.), as assistant corporate secretary for twenty-five years until he retired. Throughout Larry’s life his love of music has brought joy to many. He has performed in plays and musicals, sang in the Dallas BAR NONE shows, and performed at a variety of events. Enjoying his time as a retiree, Larry was an avid traveler, was a part of the Stephen’s Ministry, sang in the Northway Christian Church Choir, and loved to take his wife, Janis, on Sunday drives and visit all the grandchildren at all their events. Larry married his wife, Janis Bradley, on June 22, 1957 in Kansas City, MO. They were married for fifty-six years. Larry is survived by his wife, Janis of Richardson, TX; children, Dr. John Jay and wife, Debbie of Colleyville, TX; Sandra Jarvis and husband, Bob of Sherman, TX; and Evelyn Fry and husband, Eric of Plano, TX; eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James W. Jay and wife, Jeannie of Overland Park, KS; sister, Nancy Jay Langley and husband, Ben of Fort Worth, TX; along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews. A viewing will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. A memorial service honoring Larry and his blessed life will take place on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Northway Christian Church in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Northway Christian Church of Dallas, TX, or Texas Tech Law School in Lubbock, TX in the name of Larry Jay.
