Robert Lawrence " Larry " McCallum's Obituary
Robert Lawrence "Larry" McCallum, 81, passed away on March 5th, 2025, in Abilene, Texas after a brief illness. Born on November 13th, 1943, in Dallas, Texas, Larry lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and profession.
Larry graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1962 before pursuing higher education at the University of Arkansas, where he earned his degree in 1966. He then continued his studies at SMU Law School, graduating in 1969. His legal career spanned over four decades, during which he served the town of Addison, Texas, with unwavering commitment. From 1973 to 1992, he held the position of City Attorney before transitioning to City Prosecutor from 1992 until his retirement in 2016. His work left a lasting impact on the community he served.
Beyond his professional achievements, Larry had a deep appreciation for nature and the country lifestyle. He found joy in traveling and capturing the beauty of the world through photography. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, as was working hard on the McCallum Ranch—though in later years, he preferred supervising rather than doing the heavy lifting himself. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his devotion to family and friends.

He is survived by his son Craig McCallum and partner Erin Walker; daughter Laurie McCallum and her husband Dillon Hoffman; brother Carl “Dick” McCallum and his wife Pam; Susan McCallum, wife of Charles McCallum Jr., daughter Kelley Dooley and son Marshall McCallum. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Winnye McCallum; brother Charles McCallum Jr. and sister Tracy Lynn McCallum.
