Robert Holland McDole's Obituary
MCDOLE, ROBERT HOLLAND – 81 of Garland, Texas, passed away November 1. Bob was born May 12, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Patsy Ruth Holland McDole and Robert E McDole. At age 11, his family moved to South Bend, IN, where he attended Central High School and began his long amateur career as a high- level tennis player, and where he first became a fan of his beloved Fighting Irish of the University of Notre Dame. During this period of his life he shared a close and special relationship with his step father Don Hosford. Bob studied at Kalamazoo College, MI, on a tennis scholarship and also attended classes at Notre Dame. Bob was enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the USAF Tennis Team, which won the USAF World Wide Tennis Championship. He was also Historian for his unit. After this period Bob lived and raised his family in several states including Montana, Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois. He was a gifted actor in community theatre and a talented radio announcer. His impressive career included roles with Studebaker Corporation of America. At the time of his death, Bob was still active as a consultant in the field of country club acquisitions. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Eames McDole to whom he was married for 38 years; his three daughters from his first marriage, Laura Ruth McDole Kirlin of Overland Park, KS, Cindy (Robert) Vandersluis of Bainbridge Island, WA and Shelly (Adrian) Creasy of Frisco. Bob is also survived by step-daughters Sheri Beemers (Deb Sabler) of Little Elm and Wendy Fitzgerald of Colleyville; grandchildren Bailee Marie McDole Kirlin; Andrew, Haley and Connor Bell; and first wife Marguerite Barrett McDole. Bob’s wonderful cooking, tremendous wit, superb intellect, and smiling “Irish Eyes” will be greatly missed. He loved his country and he loved his state of Texas. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, November 5, 2012 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday November 6, 2012 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
