Robert Carroll Mckelvy's Obituary
Born February 1, 1927 the only child of Jim and Cledice McKelvy in Shreveport, LA and passed away on December 9, 2024 in Dallas, TX. Bob was predeceased by Marcille, his loving wife of 73 years, and is adored and respected by many friends and loved ones. He served in the US Navy during WWII as a Radioman on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. After the war he graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport. Bob married Marcille McGuirt and they moved to Dallas where he attended SMU and received a Master Degree in Accounting. He was employed in public accounting for three years and obtained his CPA license. His lifetime employment was with Glitsch, Inc. where he held various positions beginning in the Accounting Department. After 37 years he retired in 1990 as President and CEO of the company.
Bob was very active at East Dallas Christian Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder. He held various positions in the church including Chairman of many committees, Treasurer and Board Chair. He was also a Board member and Officer of several charitable organizations such as Fowler Christian Apartments, Thai Christian Foundation, East Dallas Community Center, Inc. and The EDCC Foundation.
We would like to thank all of the staff and caregivers that assisted Bob during his final years which includes the staff at The Tradition Assisted Living, Bliss Staffing Agency, All Star Hospice and Jorge Nkwoh. A special note of gratitude to his longtime caregivers and dear friends Rachael Duru and Nelson Ajaero.
A graveside service will be held at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas on Saturday, December 14 at 3:00 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Dallas Christian Church, PO Box 140009, Dallas, TX 75214.
