Robert Dale Opdyke's Obituary
OPDYKE, ROBERT D. Was born in Michigan and died peacefully at the age of 74 following surgery. Robert was manager of Government Contracts at Texas Instruments for 22 years. He served as first president of the National Contract Management Association of the Washington, DC chapter and was active in the Dallas chapter. He was awarded the NCMA’s Cecil Covington Founder’s award in 1993. He graduated from Western Michigan University and attended George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. Prior to working the Government Contracts he served his country during the Korean conflict and also taught school in Washington, DC. He is survived by his adoring wife, Darlene; son, Terry and wife Lisa; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and James Stephenson and Tracy and Stephen Pierce. He leaves four cherished grandchildren; Nathan and Danielle Opdyke and Stephanie and Grant Pierce. Robert was a fervent believer in “doing the right thing”, regardless of the circumstance. Bob was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank Doctors Kawalsky, Ryan, and Tran for their heroic efforts to save him. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 3:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home’s Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association- (617)-737-3200, The Salvation Army- 1-800-SAL-ARMY, and Operation Kindness- 972-418-PAWS.
