Dr. Robert Wayne Perrin's Obituary
Dr. Robert Wayne Perrin passed away April 29th at 1:30 AM as a result of natural causes. Dr. Perrin, the youngest of five children, was born October 6, 1927 to Eugene Allen and Lois Kathleen Perrin in the historic town of Goliad, Texas. His father was a school superintendent. The family moved to Cameron in 1934 where Dr. Perrin graduated from Yoe High School in 1944. Dr. Perrin expressed happy memories of close family life and of growing up in this small community.
Reverend Walter Underwood married Dr. Perrin and Miss Mary Ann Shoemaker August 17, 1957 in the Dickinson Chapel of the First Methodist Church of Dallas. They met at Sunday school in 1956. Miss Shoemaker moved to Dallas in 1955 from Clinton, Missouri where her family have been prominent farmers for many generations. She passed away December 9, 2015. Dr. Perrin adored his lovely wife, two children and three grandchildren. He held them to be the best part of his life. Survivors are his son, Robert Lynn Perrin of Richardson, Texas, daughter, Peggy Ann Burns of Dallas, brother-in-law, Bob Shoemaker, grandchildren, Chelsey Lynn Elizabeth Perrin of Edmonton, Canada, Emily Katherine Burns and Robert Daniel Burns, IV of Dallas, great grandchildren Adam, Cayden, Novalee, Elizabeth and Eloise and many dear nieces and nephews. His wife, father, mother, brothers, Frank and Douglas and sisters Kathleen Hobson and Dorothy Carroll precede him in death.
Dr. Perrin entered the University of Texas at Austin at the age of 16 in 1944. There he explored several fields of study including engineering and the Methodist ministry. In 1946 he entered the US Army. He received an honorable discharge as a Medical Detachment Sergeant in January 1947. A return to the University of Texas resulted in a BA degree preparatory to Medicine in 1949. He graduated with honors and was chosen to be a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta Honorary Pre-Medical Society. He received a MD Degree 1953 from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He ranked near the top of his class. While there he was a member of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity, which he served as president. He received the Eben J. Cary Anatomy Award and was elected to membership in the Mu Delta and Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Societies.
He joined the USAF serving a year internship at Denver General Hospital and a year of obstetrics at Carswell AFB, Ft Worth, TX. He received an honorable separation from active duty as a Captain in 1955 and an honorable discharge from the AF Reserves in 1958.
He completed a residency in Radiology at Dallas Veteran’s Hospital 1955–1958 with certification by the American Board of Radiology. He held membership in the American Medical Association, The Texas Medical Association, the Dallas County Medical Society, and the Radiological Society of North America and was a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He served as president of the Dallas-Ft Worth Radiological Society and The Texas Radiological Society. He was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the New England Historical Genealogical Society, the Rhode Island Historical Society and had been a board member of the Texas Historical Foundation.
Dr. Perrin began his practice of Radiology in Ft Worth in 1958. He returned to Dallas in 1959. In 1966 he moved to Methodist Hospitals of Dallas where in 1968 he was a founding member of Radiological Consultants Association. He retired December 1998 but continued to practice part time including 10 years at the VA Hospital until October 2012 at 85 years of age. Devotion to family, travel and charity volunteering filled the years of retirement.
At his death he was a member of the University Park United Methodist Church and the Wedding Ring Class. Memorials may be made to this church at 4024 Caruth Blvd., Dallas, TX 75225.
Memorial Service will be held on May 18th in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park at 10:00 AM. Interment will be on May 18th in Restland Memorial Park with family and friends at 11:00 AM.
