Robert Y. Phelan, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert Y. Phelan Jr. age 83, passed away on Wed. May 25, 2016 in Dallas, TX. Bob was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Robert and Flora Keele Phelan on March 1, 1933. Bob graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1954 with a degree in chemical engineering. He had a long and successful career, primarily at the IBM Corporation, both in Endicott, NY, and Austin, TX, where he was a highly respected Senior Site Executive. Bob met the love of his life at 17 when he met Janie Lee, also of Nashville, and on May 10, 2016 they celebrated their 64th anniversary. As he said many times over the years, when he met her, he knew she was the one, and all these years later she was still the light of his life and Bob is survived today by Jane Lee Phelan. They had six children, Robert Y.,III of Binghamton, NY, Brad(Sullins) of Birmingham, Al., Wade(Patti) of Endicott, NY, Lisa (Rochelle) of Dallas, TX, David (Esther) of Austin, TX, and David’s twin Donna Celeste, who died in July 1960, at three months of age. Bob is survived by his sister, Joy Phelan (James) Arnold and by 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. After retiring from IBM, Bob and Jane started their next adventure. They bred and showed Scottish Terriers! They founded Caevnes Kennels and produced many champion Scotties. For the last 30 years of his life, it was their great passion. There will be a Celebration of Robert’s life on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home with a reception to follow. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers donations are encouraged to be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, The Scottish Terrier Rescue Trust Fund or a charity of your choice.
