Dr. Robert V. Schroeder DDS's Obituary
SCHROEDER, DDS, DR. ROBERT V., passed on to his eternal home on April 20, 2013. He was the husband of Carolyn Koller Schroeder for 61 years, devoted father of Janet Schroeder and Judith Schroeder Shipley and her husband, Michael, and dear grandfather of Tara. Dr. Schroeder was born July 30, 1926, in Owasso, OK (now Tulsa) to Edwin and Kathryn Schroeder. Siblings are Edwin Schroeder, Kathryn Schroeder Hull, and Vernon Schroeder (pre-deceased). Schroeder received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Baylor University, in Waco, TX, and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry, in Dallas. He taught dentists in training in the early days of his practice. He loved the practice of dentistry and his patients became treasured friends. Deeply patriotic, Schroeder served a total of thirty-six years, active and reserve duty with the US Army Air Force, and Navy, beginning as a private in World War II and finishing as Colonel/Commander of an Army Reserve Dental Unit. In World War II, being fluent in German, he was trained as a Counter-Intelligence agent attached to General Patton’s Third Army. During the Korean Conflict Captain Schroeder flew fighter planes in Strategic Air Command; during the Vietnam War he served in the Navy Reserve Dental Corp. Dr. Schroeder was a long-time member and deacon at First Baptist Church, Dallas, serving also as a Bible teacher for many years. He was a member of the Organizing Committee for Criswell College and maintained a keen interest in Christian education and various other Christian causes. Being mission-minded, he participated in the support of foreign missionaries, visiting mission fields in South & Central America, Europe and Russia. A Celebration of Schroeder’s Life will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 2:30 PM, Restland Memorial Chapel, following a private entombment at Restland Abbey Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Criswell College or First Baptist Church, Dallas, TX.
