Robert Jarvis Shoemaker's Obituary
Job 19:25-26: “I know that my Redeemer lives and that in the end He will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed. yet in my flesh I will see God!” Bob went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 29, 2014, following complications of multiple myeloma. He was born in Dallas on May 7, 1933 to Fred and Mavbelle Jarvis Shoemaker, both of whose ancestors lived in Texas during the years of the Republic (1836-1845). Bob graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951 and received a BBA degree from SMU in May 1955 at which time he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, USAF. Before reporting for duty, Bob married Mary Ruth Jones on July 6, 1955. Bob served as Purchasing and Contracting Officer at Foster Air Force Base, Victoria, TX, for three years. Shortly after returning to Dallas, he enrolled in SMU’s night law school. Working as a claims examiner during the day, Bob graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in 1964. Bob’s general trial practice lasted 40 years. During this time, he and Mary raised the light of their lives, David, Carolyn, and Ted. Highlights with the boys were Boy Scout campouts, snorts (particularly golf), and everything to do with WWII, but Carolyn was always his “special client” who had his ear at any time. Weekends at “the farm” in East Texas gave the family a taste of country life which they cherish. He was a member of the State Bar of Texas and Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Bob served three, five- year terms on the State Bar Grievance Committee. He was a man who stood firm in his faith in God. A forty-year worshiper at Grace Bible Church, he served several terms as both Deacon and Elder being elected chairman of each at various times. Bob had a heart for the homeless, realizing that except for a different set of circumstances, that could be him. Asked to join the Board of Union Gospel Mission Dallas, he served actively for fifteen years, being chairman for six of those years. He particularly admired its Executive Director, William Thompson, Surviving Bob is his wife, Mary; children, David, Carolyn, Ted and wife, Camelia and their daughters, Julianna and Marv Alessandra; his Jarvis cousins, Don, Jeremiah, Pat and Mike and numerous friends. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 12:00pm at Grace Bible Church, 11306 Inwood Road, 75229, followed by private interment. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His believers.” Psalm 116:15 Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243 Should you desire, memorials may be made to Grace Bible Church Union Gospel Mission 3211 Irving Blvd Dallas, Texas 75247 or the charity of your choice.
